Lost Chord UK – Our WHY and beliefs

At Lost Chord UK, we believe in the transformative power of live music to break down barriers, ignite memories, and create deep connections for people living with dementia and neurological conditions. Our work is driven by a set of core beliefs that shape everything we do:

We believe in warmth and belonging. Every musical experience should be a safe, inclusive space where everyone feels valued, supported, and free to be themselves.

We believe in the power of joy. Music is uplifting, hopeful, and inspiring. We bring energy, fun, and laughter into every session, ensuring that even in the hardest moments, music sparks light.

We believe in participation and shared experiences. Music is at its most powerful when it brings people together. Our sessions are interactive, inclusive, engaging, and designed to create moments of connection.

We believe in stronger communities. Music has the power to unite people-bridging gaps between individuals, families, care settings, and the wider community.

We believe in the magic of connection. Music reaches beyond words, creating emotional, social, and therapeutic bonds that help people feel seen, heard, and understood.

We believe in unlocking potential. Through music, we empower self-expression, confidence, and emotional well-being, helping people rediscover their voice and identity.

We believe in innovation and fearless creativity. We are pioneers, always seeking new ways to improve lives through music. We collaborate, adapt, and push boundaries to ensure that no one with dementia or neurological conditions faces isolation.

Music is our universal language of hope, communication, and thriving together. Through our joyful, interactive experiences, we turbocharge memories, reconnect people to their world, their loved ones, and their communities-ensuring that no one is left behind.

These are our beliefs, our mission, and our promise. This is Lost Chord UK.

1. Be there for people with dementia, neurological conditions and their carers

By increasing access to live interactive music, maximising our reach and impact to improve their health and wellbeing.

The issue
Too many people with dementia or neurological conditions, and the carers supporting them, miss out on the transformative power of live music. It can reduce anxiety, spark connection, improve mood, and help people stay well, yet many simply don’t have access.

Our plan
We will expand across more regions, bring our expert musicians and volunteers to more people, and ensure every note we play creates joy, connection, and better wellbeing.

How you can help
Donate to help us reach new areas, recuit new musicians and volunteers
Volunteer to support or join sessions
Introduce us to local care homes, groups, or families who could benefit.

2. Strengthen the Lost Chord UK community

By growing and connecting our network of musicians, volunteers, partners and supporters for the people we serve.

The issue
There are large parts of the UK where people need our support but we lack resources to recruit and support local musicians and volunteers to deliver it cost-effectively. Without building stronger local networks, we can’t sustainably reach everyone who could benefit.

Our plan
We will recruit, train, and support more local musicians and volunteers, deepen local partnerships, and create stronger regional hubs so our impact can spread — powered by people.

How you can help
Sign up to volunteer or spread the word in your area
Partner with us through local businesses, charities, or services
Help us build local support networks so no one is left out.

3. Build a better future through music

By better education, creating a sustainable, insight-led charity, rooted in community building a more inclusive society.

The issue
To create lasting change to make “live interactive music” the go to and mainstream part of everyday health and wellbeing and benefit from its therapeutic effects, we need  pass on all that we’ve learned, educating young people, families, schools, and communities on how music supports neuro-inclusion and wellbeing, beyond just recreational use into family life.

Our plan
We will inspire the next generation through schools, youth programmes, and intergenerational projects; share our expertise widely; and ensure the legacy of music as a vital support tool for people and families facing dementia and neurological conditions.

How you can help
Support or fund youth and education projects
Get your school, youth group, or community involved
Help us spread the word and pass on the power of music to the next generation.

4️. Be the voice and champion of live interactive music as essential

By raising awareness, sharing knowledge, and driving national change to champion live music as a key tool for improving health and care.

The issue
Despite clear evidence, the impact and benefits of live music is too often seen as a “nice-to-have,” not a vital intervention. We need to amplify the voices and shared the “lived experience of people with dementia, neurological conditions, and their carers, to show how music can help more people, dramatically improve lives, reduces stress, and take pressure off health and care services.

Our plan
We will act as a national advocate, share our 25 years of frontline grassroots knowledge, build carers’ forums, collaborate widely, and push for interactive music to be used in mainstream, as an essential part of health and care solutions, not an afterthought.

How you can help
Join our carers’ panels or choirs to share your voice
Support our advocacy and public campaigns
Help us tell the world why live interactive music matters.
