Remembering Dame Julie Kenny DBE DL
It is with deep sadness that today Lost Chord UK shares the passing of our esteemed Patron, Dame Julie Kenny DBE DL.
Dame Julie became an honorary patron of Lost Chord UK in 2016, bringing with her a remarkable spirit of generosity, dedication, and passion for improving lives. She was a steadfast supporter of our mission, believing in the power of music to uplift, connect, and bring comfort to those living with dementia and other neurological conditions.
Beyond her role with Lost Chord UK, Dame Julie was an inspirational leader, a self-made entrepreneur, and a champion of both business and community causes. She built an extraordinary career in the UK security sector, founding Pyronix Limited and serving in influential leadership roles, including Chair of the British Security Industry Association and Chair of the UK Security and Resilience Industry Suppliers Community (RISC). Her contributions were widely recognised, earning her a Damehood in 2019 and the Freedom of the Borough of Rotherham in 2021.
However, Dame Julie was not only a business leader-she was a passionate advocate for the voluntary sector, dedicating herself to causes that transformed lives. Her successful campaign to rescue Wentworth Woodhouse demonstrated her determination to protect and preserve heritage for future generations.
At Lost Chord UK, we will always remember Dame Julie as a compassionate, determined, and deeply generous supporter of our work. She believed wholeheartedly in the transformative power of music for those living with dementia and their families. Her unwavering advocacy and encouragement helped us expand our reach, bringing more interactive musical experiences to those who need them most. Through her support, she played a vital role in ensuring that music could continue to bring joy, comfort, and connection to so many lives.
Jean Collingwood, CEO of Lost Chord UK, shared:
“Dame Julie was a truly one-of-a-kind lady—an inspirational figure whose impact will live on and reached across so many sectors, including the voluntary world. We are deeply grateful for her steadfast support as our Patron and her belief in our mission. She will be greatly missed.”
On behalf of everyone at Lost Chord UK and the wider community, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Dame Julie’s family and loved ones. Her legacy will live on through the many lives she touched.
