The music is playing again as Lost Chord dementia charity tunes up for a new season of events.
Lost Chord is dedicated to improving the quality of life and well-being of people living with dementia by using interactive musical stimuli to increase general awareness and self esteem. The organisation was founded by Helena Muller in 1999, originally serving 11 residential homes in Rotherham.
It has since expanded expanded across Sheffield and South Yorkshire, North Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, with satellite schemes in London, Coventry, Cardiff, Bury St Edmonds and Ipswich.
Its patrons include Doncaster opera star Lesley Garrett and pop icon Sir Cliff Richard.
When lockdown took hold, the charity’s team of professional musicians went online to provide free sessions and ensure the music did not stop. Then, as restrictions started to ease, the musicians went ahead with outdoor sessions and experimented with safe ways to take music indoors. And following that success, Lost Chord’s organisers are now back taking bookings for the rest of the year.
“Our musicians are excited to see everybody’s smiling faces again and enjoy a Lost Chord session in person with residents in all our homes,” said Helena.
“We have performed several sessions indoors with residential homes and lots of outdoor sessions, all of which have gone extremely well and with no problems.
‘’All our musicians are double vaccinated and using lateral flow testing along with social distancing.
“We are very happy therefore to once again be putting together a monthly schedule for August and September and onwards from there.
“We would love to come and perform to you all again and have a real party!”
