Journey down the Yellow Brick Road with Lost Chord and Sheffield Theatres

LEADING South Yorkshire dementia charity Lost Chord is teaming up with Sheffield Theatres and travelling down the Yellow Brick Road  to deliver a very special musical Christmas gift.

This year’s Christmas show at the Crucible Theatre is a revival of family favourite fantasy musical The Wizard of Oz.

And on Wednesday, January 10, there will be a matinee performance of the musical specifically for people living with dementia.

Dementia friendly staff will be on hand to provide support throughout the afternoon and the production will be specially tailored to make the action on stage clear and engaging for its special audience.

To prepare the audience for the experience, Lost Chord – the charity that provides vital interactive musical experiences for people living with dementia – will be hosting three special free dementia friendly singing sessions at the Crucible on December 18 from 12.30pm to 1.30pm, December 19 from 12.30pm to 1.30pm and December 20 from 12.30pm to 1.30pm.

Lost Chord professional musicians will be performing in all three practice sessions, helping participants to be ready for the show.

The sessions will give the opportunity to sing along with some of the show’s most famous melodies, including the classic Judy Garland hit Somewhere Over the Rainbow.

“This is a wonderful Christmas gift for people living with dementia and one that should provide an extraordinary afternoon both for people living with dementia and their carers,” said Lost Chord Chief Executive Helena Muller.

“To get the most from the performance, though, we are delighted to be able to offer these free Dementia Friendly Singing Sessions as a way of introducing people to the theatre, the performance and the wonderful songs.”

Places are limited for the free singing sessions and it is advised to book early by calling the Sheffield Theatres Box Office on 0114 249 6000.

Tickets to the January 10 matinee cost £28 per person, with one free ticket for a companion.
