And that’s why the organisation that provides vital interactive musical experiences for people living with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region has named Sarah its volunteer of the year.
Sarah, who lives in Chesterfield, provides regular support for the professional Lost Chord musicians who entertain people with dementia at concerts.
“I have been working with Lost Chord since 2009 and have enjoyed it all thoroughly,” said Sarah.
“I was looking for something to do when I stopped working and Lost Chord is such a great cause to be a part of.
“Even though health problems have stopped me doing as much as I would like to recently I still like to get along to as many events as I can because at every single concert something special happens, something very moving.
“It’s such a privilege to be a Lost Chord volunteer and to be part of the process of helping music to touch people’s lives.
“There are very few occasions when you don’t end up feeling something very positive after a Lost Chord concert – everybody present gets something out of it, seeing the response that people have to good music.”
Lost Chord Chief Executive Helena Muller commented: “People like Sarah are vital to the work we do because without their active support we would not be able to reach out to the people who need us.
“The fact that Sarah has continued working at our events even when she has not been feeling well herself and intends to continue whenever she can, demonstrates the levels of enthusiasm our supporters have and that is why we felt she was the obvious choice to be our volunteer of the year.”
“Our patron Lady Sykes was delighted and very moved to present her with the Crystal Bowl Volunteer of the Year Award as well as the Treble Cleff award for runner up for Margaret Pemberton and a 10 year dedicated service award for Janet Cole’
