SOUTH Yorkshire dementia charity Lost Chord UK paid tribute to legendary Force’s Sweetheart Dame Vera Lynn, who died in 2020 at the age of 103.
Dame Vera was a patron of Lost Chord, the charity that provides vital interactive musical experiences for people living with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region and nationally.
“We are deeply saddened to hear of the death of Dame Vera, who was our patron for more than 10 years” said Lost Chord Chief Executive Helena Muller.
“She was an enthusiastic supporter of all our work and a keen advocate of the use of music as a means of reaching out to people with dementia.
“Her famous songs from the war years were always a popular part of many of our musicians’ performances, melodies that never failed to stimulate a positive response from our audiences.
“Songs like We’ll Meet Again will, of course, live on for generations to come. In spite of the progress we all make as a nation, the lyrics of all her songs are as pertinent today as they were when she first sang them all those years ago, therefore they will continue to form part of our regular programme
“It has been an absolute privilege for Lost Chord to have Dame Vera’s support for so many years and to have had such an enthusiastic advocate for our work. May I also pay tribute to her daughter who has looked after her for so many years and without her dedication, she, I’m sure, would not have survived to such an amazing age”
